Latvia on Thursday took down a Soviet-era monument in Riga following Russia's invasion of Ukraine, despite protests from the Baltic state's ethnic Russian minority to keep it.  Demolition machinery was used to remove the 79-meter World War II memorial, which has become a rallying point for Kremlin supporters in Latvia, according to an AFP journalist at the scene.  Latvia, like fellow Baltic states Estonia and Lithuania, is a NATO and EU member that has shown strong support for Ukraine in the conflict with Russia.

LITTLEFIELD, Ariz. – Northbound Interstate 15 has been closed near the Virgin River Gorge due to a fire, according to officials with the Bureau of Land Management. Officials said the Yellow Knoll Fire has burned around seven acres and was zero percent contained Saturday morning. The fire started as a vehicle fire near milepost 22. All northbound traffic is being diverted to Old Highway 91 (Mohave County Road 91). BLM officials expected the closure to last four to six hours, while Arizona Department of Transportation officials did not give an estimated time for reopening northbound lanes.
